Purpose (why): Trauma is one of the most common reasons that children are brought in for therapy. It is also linked to many other diagnoses that client's initially present with. Understanding trauma and learning how to address it in childhood is an essential skill set for clinicians working with kids. Any clinician that works with trauma needs to learn how to hold trauma but clinicians that work with kids have some unique challenges. Coaching loved ones in how to hold trauma greatly enhances trauma work with children. The world is full of big and small traumas and children are exposed to them every day. Clinicians need to be prepared to assist children and their family in navigating these events.
Method (how): This course will employ a variety of methods including lecture, handouts, activities, whiteboard, and videos. There will be time for questions and trainers will adapt as needed to trainee needs.
Audience (who): Any clinician that works with kids would benefit from this training as trauma is a common concern. Any clinician wanting to better understand how childhood trauma effects adult clients could also benefit. Licensed mental health professionals. Nurses can receive reciprocal CEUs.
